Kenneth Woods of Alabaster was killed Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a dump truck at around 1:00 p.m. on U.S. 31 north of Calera. Woods was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital where he had been taken by helicopter.
In all, there were 7 deadly motor vehicle accidents in Alabama during the Memorial Day Weekend which officially started 6 P.M. Friday and lasted through midnight Monday.
As usual, driving under the influence, distracted driving, failure to wear seatbelts and speeding were major contributing factors in each incident. According to http://www.al.com “This year’s crashes included one pedestrian, two motorcycles and an ATV, and they occurred in Talladega, Mobile, Lee, Clay, Russell, Tuscaloosa and Wilcox counties, according to a press release issued today.
The two motorcyclists killed were using helmets, but the ATV operator was not. None of the three individuals killed while traveling in vehicles was using a seat belt.”
