Kenneth Woods of Alabaster was killed Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a dump truck at around 1:00 p.m. on U.S. 31 north of Calera. Woods was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital where he had been taken by helicopter.

In all, there were 7 deadly motor vehicle accidents in Alabama during the Memorial Day Weekend which officially started 6 P.M. Friday and lasted through midnight Monday.

As usual, driving under the influence, distracted driving, failure to wear seatbelts and speeding were major contributing factors in each incident. According to “This year’s crashes included one pedestrian, two motorcycles and an ATV, and they occurred in Talladega, Mobile, Lee, Clay, Russell, Tuscaloosa and Wilcox counties, according to a press release issued today.

The two motorcyclists killed were using helmets, but the ATV operator was not. None of the three individuals killed while traveling in vehicles was using a seat belt.”
