86-year old Janie Hurley Owens was killed when a van in which she was a passenger, operated by the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama and driven by Denise Allene Schilz, collided with a dump truck carrying asphalt at 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alabama Route 24 and Lawrence County 325, five miles west of Trinity.

Scliz, 50 of Falkville was taken to Decatur General Hospital along with three other passengers in the van while Miss Owens was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Moulton Advertiser, Bill Giguere, foundation development officer for the agency, said the vehicle was transporting children home from a day treatment program at the center’s clinic in Moulton.
