Allen Michael Brown, age 25, was killed while working the evening shift at Federal-Mogul Corporation at around 9:30 Wednesday, June 24 when he was run over by a forklift driven by another unnamed individual. It appears that Brown may have gotten off the forklift in order to secure it’s cargo when the lift proceeded to drive over Brown. Police are interviewing the driver of the forklift as well as management to try to determine the cause of the accident which happened at the Federal-Mogul Corporation on Freeman Avenue in Athens Alabama. While the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, according to Athens police, foul play is not suspected.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration estimates that of the 900,000 in operation in the US, forklifts cause about 34,900 accidents per year that result in serious injury. In addition there are around 61,800 forklift accidents that are classified as non-serious. Forklift accidents account for approximately 85 fatalities each year. Only 10% of all fatal forklift accidents are the result of being struck by or run over by the forklift. It is more common to be crushed by the vehicle tipping over,42%, or to be crushed between vehicle and a surface, 25%.

Allen is survived by his wife Brianna and daughter, Violet. Briana is expecting a second child in January.
